does anybody know what settings I need to vectorize this file with smooth lines?

U have to do node editing after trace is made,that is the only way to get smooth lines.
There is no traceing program that will give u smooth lines.

I did the same picture with vectormagic.com and it gave me reasonably smooth lines.
That why I wondered what settings would do that with AI

Ralluf,

They're different programs, unfortunately every image is different. Settings that may work for one image, may not work for another. Vector Magic has a better recognition process than Adobe Illustrator does which is why you got a better image right off the bat. It automatically recognizes and categorizes your image, then traces it. You can adjust the settings Vector Magic uses also, the programs do the same things, they just function a little differently. I use both programs hand in hand. I don't think one is better than the other, as a matter of fact for some projects I use Vector Magic and for others I use Adobe Illustrator. If you absolutely positively want to do your project in Adobe Illustrator you'll just have to play around with the Live Trace settings until you get the results your looking for. I hope that helps :)
