Does anyone know any easy way to do this in Illustrator please see sample.

Go to Effect -> 3D -> Extrude & Bevel  and move Extrude. By default it's 50 pt, that defines the depth.

I tried that its not quite the same. I'm guessing this is just something that has to be done with a plug in or something.
